Individual Consultant -- Advisor-- for the Cleanup of Contaminated Site and Preparation of EIA under Demonstration of Alternatives to Chlordane and Mirex in Termite Control

Background
1.In cooperation with the World Bank (WB), State Environmental Protection Administration (SEPA) Foreign Economic Cooperation Office (FECO) prepared a project entitled Demonstration of Alternatives to Chlordane and Mirex in Termite Control. The project was approved by the Global Environmental Facility (GEF) on June, 2005. The project development objective is to mitigate environmental and health risks associated with chlordane and mirex in termite control by the following actions:
a)Demonstrating the elimination of chlordane and mirex through the introduction of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) in demonstration area; and
b)Gaining relevant experiences to design a cost-effective program for phasing out chlordane and mirex (C&M) completely in China.
2.The Convention Implementation Office of State Environmental Protection Administration of China (CIO/SEPA) is the national implementing agency for the project. The project is planned for a four-year period from July 2006 to June 2010, respectively.
3.The project represents the first step to substantially address C&M under the framework of Stockholm Conventions on POPs in China. It will be followed by a replication program throughout China.
