Background

The People’s Republic of China has received the grant from the Global Environmental Facility (GEF) for implementation of Demonstration of Alternatives to Chlordane and Mirex in Termite Control Project, and plans to allocate up to part of the grant to support Preparing Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) Associated with Closure of the Chlordane and Mirex (C&M) Production Facilities. The conclusion of EIAs will server for National Replication Program under above project, which will contribute to China’s ongoing efforts to reduce substantially the risks to human health and the environment from toxic chemicals.

The Demonstration of Alternatives to Chlordane and Mirex in Termite Control Project is implemented by the World Bank in collaboration the Stockholm Convention Implementation Office of State Environmental Protection Administration of the People’s Republic of China (CIO).
