Background

The People’s Republic of China has received the grant from the Global Environmental Facility (GEF) for implementation of Demonstration of Alternatives to Chlordane and Mirex (C&M) in Termite Control Project, and plans to allocate up to part of the grant to support Sampling and Testing Associated with Phase II ESAs of the Four Chlordane and Mirex Production Sites. The conclusion of Environmental Site Assessment (ESA) will server for National Replication Program under above project, which will contribute to China’s ongoing efforts to reduce substantially the risks to human health and the environment from toxic chemicals.

The Demonstration of Alternatives to Chlordane and Mirex in Termite Control Project is implemented by the World Bank in collaboration the Stockholm Convention Implementation Office (CIO) of Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP) of the People’s Republic of China.

Objective

The objectives of this assignment are to conduct independent field sampling and laboratory testing for further delineation of the nature and extent of the contamination at four (4) C&M production plants located in Jiangsu province.
